|
Alan Olsen is a partner with Greenstein Rogoff Olsen & Co., a Fremont based accounting firm. He is on the board of FremontOnline and the Fremont Chamber of Commerce and is involved in many aspects of civic and community life in Fremont. |
|
Alan was born in Helena, Montana. His ancestors were Danish immigrants to the United States who followed the westward expansion of the nineteenth century. Alan’s grandmother’s grandmother was part of the Martin Handcart Company, a group of Mormon settlers who experienced great hardship in their trek across the west. Recently, Alan enjoyed playing the part of one of the more infamous figures of that era, Porter Rockwell, in the Oakland Temple Pageant.
After obtaining a degree in accounting from Brigham Young University Alan moved to Fremont, where his grandmother lived, and began working as a revenue agent for the IRS. Alan's wife, Susan, is a life-long resident of Fremont. Her grandmother and Alan's were best friends. Susan and Alan have six children.
On leaving the IRS, Alan worked for a large accounting firm. After a few years he wrote out a priority list for himself, describing what he sought in a job. That list started with three items;
- Time with family
- Time working in and contributing to community
- Job close to home, no lengthy commute
Having created his list, Alan sat down with the Yellow Pages and wrote a letter to each firm that looked promising and explained why he wanted to work for them. The strategy was successful and Alan has worked in Fremont ever since.
