Brent Hodson has recently celebrated his 30th year with Washington Hospital. |
|
Last November, Brent Carl Hodson, Chief of Community Support Services and Executive Director of the Washington Hospital Healthcare Foundation, celebrated his 30th anniversary with Washington Hospital.
Brent joined the Washington Hospital Healthcare System to open its physical therapy department, building it from the ground up. What began as a one-person department now also offers speech therapy, occupational therapy and cardiac rehab. He served 25 years as Director of Rehab Services, and in 1995 began wearing a second hat: Senior Director of Community Relations. Prior to accepting the executive director position for the foundation, he had served as its interim director for 18 months.
A strong work ethic and service to community is something Brent learned from his family and through his church. His father and grandfather are two of the greatest influences in his life. “My grandfather was a farmer, well respected in the community for his honesty and integrity,” Brent said. “He taught us to work hard and be proud of who we are.” Brent remembers when he and his cousins would help their grandfather and then pile into the back of his old Chevy to drive to an A&W to buy a gallon of root beer for sixty five cents. “It was always a bit scary, as my grandfather took his half of the road in the middle,” smiled Brent.
But the ride was well worth it, as Brent learned the value of hard work and celebrating achievements, which has served him in good stead for both his private and professional life.
“As Chief of Community Support Services,” Brent explained, “I am the Hospital’s liaison to the community.” One of the ways Brent accomplishes this is through service to others: he is a past president of the Rotary Club of Fremont and past board chair of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce. He is currently a chamber vice-chair and a member of the Leadership Fremont Steering Committee. He is also the Hospital’s representative to the Newark and Union City Chambers of Commerce. He is active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and currently serves as the President of the Fremont Stake. He and his wife RaeDene have three grown children and eight grandchildren.
In recognition of his contributions to the Fremont community, Brent has been chosen as the recipient for the 2005 Excellence in Leadership Award, to be presented at the Fremont Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Gala on May 13, 2005.
