Visitors Guide

Although Fremont's desirable location and public transportation makes it easy for residents to take advantage of all the cultural and recreational opportunities available in nearby locales, the city offers wonderful attractions and points of interests within the city. Whether you are an art or music lover, an outdoors enthusiast, antique collector, or a history buff, Fremont has something to suit your tastes

Art lovers will enjoy the Olive Hyde Art Gallery in historic Mission San Jose, or the Fremont Art Association Gallery in the equally historic Niles. History buffs will also enjoy visiting these areas of Fremont, as well as the Centerville Train Depot, or stepping back in time at the Ardenwood Historic Farm, an authentic 208-acre farm complete with the Victorian Patterson House, a horse-drawn train and pioneer wagon; or visiting the Mission San Jose and the Museum of Local History.

Young and old will also enjoy riding the Niles Canyon Railway, or find plenty to do in one of Fremont's beautiful parks.

Few cities can boast of having a symphony orchestra, but Fremont has been blessed with its own Fremont Symphony Orchestra nearly 40 years. The orchestra performs at the Gary Soren Smith Center for the Performing Arts, located on the Ohlone Community College grounds. Many national and international artists perform at the Smith Center, as well as local favorites.

Visitors to Fremont who have more time to explore the Bay Area and beyond will appreciate its close proximity to major attractions. San Francisco is only 40 minutes away, and the rugged, breathtaking coastlines and beaches stretching from Mendocino south to the Monterey Peninsula and on to Big Sur are within a 45-minute to two-hour drive. The Livermore Valley vineyards and wine cellars are a short 30-minute drive, and famous Napa Valley only an hour and a half. Skiing at its finest, as well as year-round water and outdoor sports in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Lake Tahoe can be reached in less than four hours.
